Autism being a spectrum disorder and yet often involving language problems, some people like my daughter are completely non-verbal up until age 5 and then she slowly gained language, but then again just single words at a time. Very slow to learn. Some people with autism may seem to have normal language, normal ability to speak but after they’ve talked at you for about 20 minutes about their favorite interest, you realize they don’t really understand conversation. The back and forth of a conversation. They know how to talk at someone but may not be so good at reciprocal conversation, in really understanding the other points, other person’s point of view.
